The Downtown Youth & Family Ministry has a long history of mission efforts designed to help our teens gain experience in sharing their faith and in looking beyond themselves to those in need. During the years, the Lord has taken us to Mexico; San Antonio, TX; Fiji; Indianapolis, IN; Jacksonville, AR; Little Rock, AR (River City Work Camp); Ontario, Canada and Nova Scotia, Canada. These trips have not only been a blessing to those we ministered to, but also to the teens and adults who participated on these mission teams. Our focus for these efforts is to “seek the lost” by reaching out to those who need the Lord. The mission efforts are broken down into two categories: 1) a Local Mission Effort and 2) a Foreign Mission Effort. · The Local Mission Effort will take place during the summer for no longer than a one-week period. The cost will be no more than $250 and all 7th-12th grade teens are eligible for this mission effort. It will be led by our two summer youth interns and a group of parents. · The Foreign Mission Effort will take place during the summer for a period of two weeks. The cost will exceed $600 and only 8th-12th grade teens are eligible for this mission effort. It will be led by Jeremy and Phil along with help from other parents and adults. There are additional requirements for eligibility for this mission effort. o Additional Requirements: 1. All teens wishing to take part in this mission effort must have taken part in the Local Mission Effort prior to going on the Foreign Mission Effort. a) Those who have participated in a previous Foreign Mission Effort have already met this eligibility requirement. 2. All teens wishing to take part in this mission effort must have participated in at least two of the three Outreach/Friendship Sundays and two of the three Service Projects throughout the school year prior to the Foreign Mission Effort. a) Outside Service and Evangelistic efforts can take the place of this requirement upon approval by Jeremy and Phil. The following is a list of eligibility requirements for all Downtown Youth & Family Ministry Mission Efforts:
Once an eligible candidate has successfully completed the above requirements and has been approved as a mission team member, then they are given a “Commitment/Expectation Form” that must be read, signed and dated by the team member and their parents before the first team meeting. If you have any further questions concerning these mission efforts, please do not hesitate to contact Jeremy or Phil for more information. May the Lord be glorified and His kingdom grow through these efforts. |
