LIFEGUARDS

A Lifeguard is an adult of any age who has a desire to make a difference in the life of a teen. It is so important that our teens connect with several different Christian adults of all ages. These adults become mentors and examples of how to walk the Christian road. We encourage all parents, university students, young married families, and older adults to take part in this wonderful opportunity and help us as Youth & Family Ministers to touch the lives of each individual teen here at Downtown.

Scriptural Reference: Exodus 18:13-26

Your Commitment as a Lifeguard

  1. Come to at least one class time a month (either Sunday morning or Wednesday night).

  2. Commit to an age group of teens that you can get to know and care for.

  3. Pray daily for your group of teens, our youth, and this ministry.

  4. Make as many contacts with your group of teens as possible (through cards, phone calls, e-mails, face-to-face meetings, etc.).

  5. Inform Jeremy and Phil of any special needs and/or prayer requests of your particular teens.

  6. Come to Lifeguard meetings when possible (there will be one meeting each quarter).

Your Purpose as a Lifeguard

  1. MAIN PURPOSE:  To lift Jesus Christ up to youth and equip them for discipleship!

  2. Get to know your teens on a one-on-one basis.

  3.             (They need to know they are loved!)

  4. Develop trusting, caring relationships.

  5.             (They need someone who is consistent in their lives!)

  6. Become the teen’s spiritual mentor.

  7.             (They need positive Christian’s examples!)

  8. YOU are the REAL youth and family ministers!

How Long Does Your Commitment Last?

This commitment will last for one school year (September-August) with hopes that you will stay on and follow your group of teens through their years in the youth group. It is your responsibility to give us at least two weeks notice if you find that you cannot maintain this commitment.
