One thing we hear a lot is “How can we help?” or “Why haven’t you called us to help?” Sometimes it is difficult to remember everyone who would like to help and, of course, our goal is to involve every parent in this ministry. Therefore, we are providing you with a list of ways in which you can help and each year we will provide a Youth & Family Ministry Fair where you will have opportunity to sign up for specific things with which to help. You will find a list of those opportunities below. If you would like to help in one of these areas but will not be able to attend the fair, please contact Jeremy, Phil or Glenda and we will assist you in this. Chaperone Events We are always in need of chaperones for all events, including: Youth Hayride, New Year’s Getaway, Spring Retreat, Mission Efforts, SPLASHDOWN, and many, many more. Please help us in this by signing up for specific events during the Youth & Family Ministry Fair or by contacting us at the church office. We would love it if you came by to talk about this with us in more detail if you miss the fair. Drive Church Vehicles We are always in need of CDL drivers for several of our youth events. If you are at all interested in this, please sign up and we will help you through the process of obtaining your CDL. We would then appreciate your willingness to sign up for different events to help with the driving. It is not as difficult as it sounds. Food Preparation for Youth Events Many of our youth events require a great deal of food preparation. We need as much help as possible with this. You will have opportunity to sign up to help with food preparation for all needed events. We will provide enough spaces for the number of cooks we will need for each event. Please help us with this important task. Life Groups & Jr. High Small Groups Our Wednesday evenings are filled with wonderful small groups. However, we find ourselves continuously in need of help for these. For Life Groups (our Senior High small groups in homes) we are in need of individuals who will either provide a home for the school year or be a teacher in a Life Group. If you are interested in this and would like to sign up for the coming year, please indicate so on the sign ups. We are also in need of small group leaders for our Jr. High Small Groups on Wednesday evenings. These leaders serve on a quarterly basis. Please sign up to help us with this. Lifeguards A Lifeguard is an adult of any age who has a desire to make a difference in the life of a teen. It is so important that our teens connect with several different Christian adults of all ages. These adults become mentors and examples of how to walk the Christian road. We encourage all parents, university students, young married families and older adults to take part in this wonderful opportunity and help us as Youth & Family Ministers to touch the lives of each individual teen here at Downtown. If you can help us with this, please indicate so on the sign up. LIGHT Teams The LIGHT team consists of parents and adults who have a desire to help our teens involve their talents in ministry. This is done by serving alongside them in a ministry team. We have provided our team members with several possibilities to involve their talents. Please read more about this on the “S.A.L.T. & LIGHT TEAMS” page provided in this handbook. Teach Classes Every quarter we need at least 14 teachers on Sunday mornings for the classes we offer. Therefore, WE NEED YOUR HELP. You will have opportunity to scan through the quarters and the offered classes at the ministry fair. Please sign up for a particular class and quarter and help us out with this.
Parents are always welcome to be a part of any Youth & Family Ministry event (except in the case of the Senior Trip, 7th Grade Trip and TLC). As a matter of fact, these events CANNOT happen without your help. Please make sure to involve yourself in at least one of these areas of need. Your signature is your commitment to us that we can count on you for this and we will not have to go looking at the last minute for someone (we understand special cases). Thank you so much for your desire to help and always let us know how we can help and what we can do better for you, your teen(s), and this ministry. We are always looking to grow. |
