Obey Reach Out Encourage
Our Core Group Philosophy
Traditional youth ministry had a youth minister trying to meet the needs of every teen in the youth group. That led to burn out on the part of the youth minister and "fringe" teens that never felt a part of the group.
So we came up with a different approach. We decided to create "core groups" within the youth group, much like small groups within the church. This allows a smaller group of teens to get to know one another and feel connected. The core group leader is able to minister to the needs of his/her group. The youth minister is still involved in the life of the teens, but he also supports the efforts of the core group leaders.
These groups are created by gender and age. For instance, the 7th grade girls might be a core group.
